New Jersey Transit is staying the ridership growth course. According to preliminary first-quarter fiscal-year 2006 data, rail ridership rose more than 7 percent compared with first-quarter FY2005.

Since the new fiscal year began July 1, NJ Transit registered the largest ridership increase on its light-rail lines. During the three-month period ending Sept. 30, ridership rose about 25 percent and 18 percent on the Hudson-Bergen and River LINE light-rail lines, respectively.

The agency’s ridership hit an all-time high during FY2005.
