NJ Transit expands scope of design work for Newark Penn Station project

Earlier this week, the New Jersey Transit board amended a contract with Clough Harbour & Associates L.L.P. to expand the scope of design work for Newark Penn Station improvements.

In June 2005, NJ Transit awarded Clough Harbour a $3.5 million contract to design the platform improvements, including an extension, along Track 5. The agency will rehabilitate the platform to operate longer Raritan Valley Line trains. Under the $1.1 million amendment, the firm also will design stairway improvements at Market Street, engineer the demolition of a former station heating plant and provide foundation design for a pedestrian overpass on the Track 5 platform.

Final design is scheduled to be complete in summer; construction is expected to conclude by the end of 2008.
