Norfolk Southern Corp. recently landed on Inbound Logistics magazine’s inaugural G25 list, which recognizes 25 companies’ sustainability efforts.

The magazine honored NS for its “Green Machine,” an online carbon footprint analyzer that enables shippers to estimate emissions for freight moving by rail and truck. Inbound Logistics also noted the Class I’s efforts to upgrade its locomotive fleet to reduce emissions.

Meanwhile, BNSF Railway Co. recently received the North Texas Clean Air Coalition’s “Clean Air Champion” award. The coalition’s Working for Clean Air™ Awards recognize businesses that develop internal programs aimed at improving air quality and health in north Texas.

BNSF updated policies to ensure its Forth Worth, Texas, headquarters meets or exceeds environmental quality standards, according to the coalition. In addition, the railroad’s programs have encouraged car pooling, recycling and energy efficiency.
