NS awards 10 college scholarships

Norfolk Southern Corp. recently awarded college scholarships to 10 sons and daughters of its employees as part of the company’s annual scholarship program. Recipients of this year’s National Merit Scholarship are:

• Matthew Ambler, son of General Attorney Thomas Ambler and Martha Ambler, and a graduate of Maury High School, Norfolk, Va., who plans to attend Yale University;
• Adam Bowling, son of Director Industrial Development Robert Bowling and Julia Bowling, and a graduate of Harrison High School, Kennesaw, Ga., who plans to attend the University of Georgia; and
• Mark Gurevich, son of Manager Performance Measurements Anatoly Gurevich and Irina Gurevich, and a graduate of Wheeler High School in Marietta, Ga., who plans to attend the Georgia Institute of Technology.

Recipients of Norfolk Southern Special Scholarships are:

• Marc Bein, son of Engineer Ronald Bein and Angela Bein, and a graduate of Nottoway High School in Crewe, Va., who plans to attend Longwood University;
• Brittany Byerley, daughter of Signal Electronic Specialist Justin Byerley and Julanna Byerley, and a graduate of R. Nelson Snider High School in Fort Wayne, Ind., who plans to attend Indiana University-Purdue University in Fort Wayne;
• Brooke Hayden, daughter of Engineer Richard Hayden and Deborah Hayden, and a graduate of Collinsville High School in Collinsville, Ill., who plans to attend University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill;
• Justin Luttrell, son of Engineer Kevin Luttrell and Cheryl Stegman, and a graduate of Highlands High School in Fort Thomas, Ky., who plans to attend Auburn University;
• Joel Smith, son of Assistant Manager Service Contracts Donald Smith and Pamela Smith, and a graduate of Salem High School in Salem, Va., who plans to attend University of Virginia in Charlottesville;
• Jonathan Thompson, son of Machinist James Thompson and Lynn Thompson, and a graduate of Bellwood-Antis High School in Bellwood, Pa., who plans to attend University of Pittsburgh; and
• Emily Yeh, daughter of Senior Designer Ching Yeh and Ying Yeh, and a graduate of Northview High School in Duluth, Ga., who plans to attend University of Michigan.
