NS honors chemical shippers' safe-handling efforts

Norfolk Southern Railway May 2 announced that 29 companies earned the railroad's Thoroughbred Chemical Safety Award by each shipping more than 1,000 hazardous-chemical carloads on NS during 2001 without causing a product release.
The winning companies, which together shipped more than 108,000 chemical carloads without an incident, are: AKZO Nobel Chemicals Inc.; Archer Daniels Midland Co.'s Peoria, Ill., plant; BP Chemical; BP Products North America; Citgo Asphalt Refining Co.; The Dow Chemical Co.; DuPont Corp.'s Belle, W.Va., plant; Eaglebrook Inc.; Enterprise Products Co.; ExxonMobil Chemical Co.; Finnchem USA Inc.; Honeywell International Inc.; Huntsman Corp.; Koch Industries; Koppers Industries Inc.; Lyondell Chemical Co.; Marathon Ashland Petroleum LLC; Motiva Enterprises LLC; NOVA Chemicals Inc.; Occidental Chemical Corp.'s Evans City, Ala., plant; Olin Corp.'s Nixon, Ga., plant; PCS Phosphate's Lee Creek, N.C., and Occidental, Fla., plants; Rhodia Inc.; Shell Chemical Co.; Sunbelt Chlor Alkali Partnership; Sunoco Chemicals Inc.'s Frankford, Pa., and Haverhill and Toledo, Ohio, plants; Tosco Refining Co.; Valero Marketing & Supply Co.; and Young Refining Corp.
