Ohio county seeks federal, state funds for grade separation

Lucas County, Ohio, officials recently requested $10.2 million from the U.S. Department of Transportation and $13.3 million from the Ohio DOT for a proposed $35 million grade separation project.

County officials plan to grade separate a Norfolk Southern Railway/McCord Road crossing and construct a roundabout in Springfield Township. A benefit/cost analysis for the project shows a 5-to-1 ratio over a 20-year design life, according to the county.

“Hopefully, one of the two applications will be approved and construction can begin in 2013,” county officials said in a prepared statement. “Funding is limited and competition is stiff.”
