RailMarketplace.com Inc. Jan. 30 named John Stoiber president and chief operating officer.
The Class I supply-chain exchange’s board is expected to confirm the appointment today, says Jeff Campbell, Burlington Northern Santa Fe vice president and chief sourcing officer, and a RailMarketplace board member.
Stoiber has a non-railroading background, specializing in company start-ups and technology, with experience as a consultant.
"Stoiber will be a true hands-on COO, responsible for all aspects of running RailMarketplace.com," says Campbell, adding that those responsibilities include customer interaction, cash flow, technology, strategic plans and development of the site.
The six largest Class Is and GE Global eXchange Services a year ago launched RailMarketplace, an open and neutral one-stop e-commerce site designed to lower the Class Is’ and site partners’ sourcing/manufacturing and transaction costs, and reduce purchasing cycle times. RailMarketplace’s board had searched for a COO for the better part of 2001.
Meanwhile, RailMarketplace Jan. 28 launched Version 2.0 of its site, enabling suppliers and buyers to access e-sourcing tools through a single sign-on, as well as railroad-specific news, search capabilities, collaborative tools and an events calendar.
