The Raritan Central Railway L.L.C. is working in conjunction with real estate developer IDI to bring rail service to a proposed 500-acre industrial park in West Memphis, Ark.

The Interstate Commerce Center (ICC) would include 16 industrial buildings totaling 6.3 million square feet. Ten of the buildings would be rail served and two would be designed to add rail capabilities in the future. The ICC also would feature a paved transloading area for plastics, food-grade and building products, and steel; and a rail yard for storage-in-transit services and interchanges. In addition, developers expect the park to be designated a Foreign Trade Zone.

Raritan Central plans to provide rail service in the park as a short line interchanging with BNSF Railway Co. and Union Pacific Railroad, said Raritan Central President Eyal Shapira in an email. The ICC also would be located within a 10-minute drive of UP’s Memphis, Tenn., intermodal terminal and less than one mile from interstates 40 and 55.

Raritan Central and IDI plan to break ground on ICC in about four months, said Shapira.
