STB schedules hearing on coal routing case

advertisement

On Oct. 26, the Surface Transportation Board (STB) will hold a hearing to listen to arguments in a case involving Entergy Arkansas Inc. and Entergy Services Inc., Union Pacific Railroad, Missouri & Northern Arkansas Railroad (MNA) and BNSF Railway Co.

Entergy’s current service involves moving coal that originates at Powder River Basin mines served by UP. The Class I interchanges with MNA at Diaz Junction, Ark., which hauls the coal eight miles to Entergy’s plant.

Instead, Entergy wants to ship coal from Powder River Basin mines served by BNSF, which then would interchange with MNA. The alternative is opposed by UP, MNA and BNSF, according to the STB.
