Sen. Michael Bennet (D-Colo.) recently announced that the Transportation Technology Center Inc. (TTCI) is “on track” to receive $5 million in federal funding for its first responder emergency preparedness programs.

The Senate Appropriations Committee has approved the funding as part of the Homeland Security Appropriations Bill for fiscal-year 2010. TTCI would use the proceeds to develop and provide operations, technician, specialist and incident command training courses for state, local and tribal first responders. The Pueblo, Colo., center is a member of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's National Domestic Preparedness Consortium.

"TTCI plays a critical role in providing America's first responders with the training they need to keep our country safe," said Bennet in a prepared statement.

The homeland security bill, which includes the TTCI appropriation, still awaits consideration by the full Senate.
