In September, Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (GCRTA) increased overall ridership 10.9 percent — the authority’s largest increase since September 1997 — recording 485,000 more rides compared with the previous month. Rail ridership increased 7.5 percent while bus ridership rose 11.6 percent.

Special events, such as the Ohio Classic college football game and the five-day Gravity games, contributed to the ridership growth, GCRTA officials said in a prepared statement.

Ridership increased on six of the authority’s 11 Community Circulator routes. Year to date, GCRTA’s overall ridership has increased slightly compared with 2002.
