TORQ Transloading to build CP-served crude terminal in Saskatchewan

TORQ Transloading Inc. yesterday announced plans to develop a large-scale unit train, crude-by-rail terminal in Kerrobert, Saskatchewan, that will be served by Canadian Pacific.

Slated to launch operations in third-quarter 2014, the $100 million Kerrobert Rail Terminal is designed to handle two 120-car unit trains per day carrying up to 168,000 barrels of light and heavy crudes per day. The terminal also will accommodate truck deliveries and accept inbound, rail back-hauled condensate.

"We feel that Kerrobert is strategic in that it allows maximum diversity and flexibility for crude-by-rail out of western Canada," said TORQ Transloading Chief Executive Officer Jarrett Zielinski in a press release. "Kerrobert is geographically as close to the heavy crude's natural destination markets as possible by rail, minimizing transportation costs relative to similar crude types to be shipped by rail originating further north and west in Alberta."

TORQ Transloading operates six crude-by-rail terminals in Alberta and Saskatchewan. Facilities in Tilley, Alberta, and Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, are served by CP, and a terminal in Whitecourt, Alberta is served by CN.
