The Taiwan railway recently awarded a multi-million-dollar contract to Alcatel Transport Solutions to provide a communication transmission system to serve a 37-station mass rapid transport (MRT) network in Kaohsiung, Taiwan.

The communication system will increase the network’s efficiency and relay public address announcements, clock distribution and telephone linkage from stations to the operations and control center, according to Alcatel.

Alcatel will install an SDH backbone network based on its Optical Multi-Service Node equipment along the line to transport communications. The company also will install its 1511 Business Access Primary Multiplexer, designed to ensure point-to-point, point-to-multipoint or broadcasting distribution. The 1521 Fiber Optic Line will enable each remote station to be connected to the local area network.
