On June 5, Burlington Northern Santa Fe named Janssen Thompson general manager of its Northwest Division, effective June 16. Thompson succeeds Don Maze, who retired June 1.

Since December 2002, Thompson had served OmniTRAX Inc. as vice president of operations. He previously held various positions at BNSF since joining the railroad in 1988 as a management trainee, serving as trainmaster, terminal manager and terminal superintendent until 1996.

In 1997, Thompson was named superintendent of corridor operations and later was promoted to assistant general superintendent of transportation.

In 1998, he was named superintendent of BNSF's Minnesota Division, later serving as the Gulf Division's general director of transportation between October 2001 and December 2002.
