Today, The Timken Co. announced it obtained a contract from Vossloh Locomotives to supply integrated bearings and housing systems for the recently introduced EURO 4000 diesel-electric locomotive in Europe.

The 4,250-horsepower, six-axle EURO 4000 — which is designed to power long and heavy freight and passenger trains — will feature 12 of the integrated systems. The locomotive can reach speeds up to 74.4 mph and includes a heavy-duty traction system.

A Vossloh AG subsidiary, Vossloh Locomotives is building 18 EURO 4000s at its Valencia, Spain, plant for Angel Trains Group and retains an option to deliver an additional 12 units in February 2008. Angel Trains will operate the locomotives on its freight-rail networks in Belgium, France, Germany and Spain, and passenger-rail network in Germany.
