The Transportation Services Index (TSI) in November reached 111.0, a 0.3 percent increase from October's level and the second-straight month-over-month gain, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation's Bureau of Transportation Statistics. The index also rose 1.8 percent compared with November 2006's level.

During 2007's first 11 months, the TSI — a measure of month-to-month changes in the output of services provided by for-hire transportation industries — rose 1.1 percent year over year.

The Freight TSI in November reached 110.2, a 0.7 percent increase from October's level and the index's second-consecutive monthly gain. A measure of month-to-month changes in the output of services provided by for-hire rail, trucking, inland waterway, pipeline and air freight firms, the Freight TSI increased for the fourth time in five months. The index also rose 1.8 percent compared with November 2006's level.

Through 2007's first 11 months, the Freight TSI increased 1.2 percent year over year.

Meanwhile, the Passenger TSI in November dropped 0.9 percent to 115.0 — the second-straight month-over-month decline. However, the measure of month-to-month changes in the output of services from for-hire passenger air, local transit and intercity passenger-rail providers increased 1.8 percent from November 2006's level. Through 11 months, the Passenger TSI rose 0.7 percent year over year.
