In April, Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon (TriMet) posted record ridership of 308,100 weekday trips. But the record didn’t last long. In May, TriMet averaged 315,700 weekday trips, a nearly 6 percent increase compared with May 2003.

On weekdays, the agency’s light-rail system carried a record average 97,900 passengers; ridership on the Blue and Red lines increased by 1,400 passengers compared with similar 2003 data.

The May 1 opening of the 5.8-mile Interstate MAX Yellow Line added 11,800 weekday rides.
