Truck and trailer orders up in June, but recovery still at risk, FTR says

In June, Class 8 truck orders totaled 15,667 units, a 20.5 percent increase vs. May’s net orders and 90.8 percent jump compared with June 2009’s orders, according to FTR Associates.

But despite the gains, the U.S. economic recovery still is at risk, FTR officials said in a prepared statement.

Vehicle forecasts for 2010 remain conservative with only slight increases projected for Class 8 demand, according to FTR's June N.A. Commercial Truck and Trailer Outlook.

“We did raise our forecast marginally to reflect the current order activity. However, we do continue to be conservative because we look at a big picture which tells us that there are real risks to too much optimism,” said FTR President Eric Starks.
