Owens Corning recently named Union Pacific Railroad a winner of its 2009 Global Logistics Carrier Excellence award.

The shipper recognized UP — the only railroad to receive the award — for “superior” on-time performance while “contributing to the success of the entire Owens Corning enterprise in 2009,” the company said in a prepared statement.

Owens Corning presents the awards annually to recognize carriers’ service on both inbound and outbound shipments, and their sustainability efforts.

Meanwhile, UP also recently published its 2009 Sustainability and Citizenship Report, which highlights the Class I’s efforts to protect the environment. The report includes sustainability and citizenship goals; UP’s environmental policy; achievements in reducing the company’s environmental footprint; community support and engagement efforts; and governance and ethics policies.
