BusinessWeek has named Union Pacific Railroad one of the best companies for interns.

The Class I ranked No. 33 on this year’s list. The ranking is based on self-reported data from employers, the magazine's "Best Places to Launch a Career" ranking and a survey of U.S. undergraduates.

"Union Pacific is dedicated to hiring top talent, and our internship program is one of the ways we identify future employees," said Barb Schaefer, UP senior vice president of human resources, in a prepared statement. "We offer our interns real-world work experiences so they know what to expect from the company.”

BusinessWeek previously ranked UP as one of the top 50 places to launch a career. The railroad’s employment practices also have garnered honors from GI Jobs, Latina Style, the National Business Group on Health, U.S. Army and U.S. Department of Defense.

Meanwhile, the National Committee for Quality Assurance has honored CSX Transportation for its health and wellness program.

Through smoking cessation support activities and incentives, the Class I has helped 33 percent of program participants quit smoking. CSXT also has increased efforts to foster and encourage a healthy lifestyle for employees.
