Last month, Union Pacific Railroad loaded 968 coal train in the Southern Powder River Basin (SPRB) compared with 939 in November 2009. The Class I averaged 32.3 trains per day vs. 31.3 in the year-ago period.

For November, the railroad logged 105 missed SPRB loading opportunities, 64 of which were attributable to slow unloading at utility plants, 22 to mines and 19 to UP. Missed loadings were offset by 113 extra loadings, UP officials said in a weekly coal loading performance report.

In the Colorado/Utah region last month, the railroad loaded 189 trains compared with 245 in November 2009.

“Sporadic production issues in [the region] limited loadings,” UP officials said in the report.
