U.S. Customs certifies Pacer Stacktrain as security program member

Pacer Stacktrain recently received Customs-Trade Partnership Against Terrorism (C-TPAT) certification from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection unit of the Department of Homeland Security. The agency determined the company’s operating and security procedures, and facilities comply with the C-TPAT program’s guidelines.

Through C-TPAT, U.S. Customs encourages businesses to ensure the integrity of their security practices and communicate security guidelines to supply-chain business partners. The program requires participants to analyze all areas of security, including documents, information systems, employee and contractor identification, equipment and facilities. C-TPAT members include all seven Class Is, ocean carriers, trucking firms and importers.

As a member, Pacer will experience fewer cargo examinations and delays at border crossings between the United States, and Mexico and Canada, said President Tom Shurstad in a prepared statement.

“As the only non-railroad operator of a double-stack freight distribution system, Pacer Stacktrain is helping to expand the C-TPAT program within the intermodal sector,” he said.
