• Ansaldo STS USA has named George Rudge director of component sales. Most recently account director for the Southeast Region, he now will be responsible for achieving component sales goals and managing field sales and customer service teams. Rudge has served Ansaldo STS USA for 35 years. Earlier this year, he became president of the Railway Systems Suppliers Inc., where he also serves on the board.

• AECOM Technology Corp. announced it’s part of a joint venture that’s been awarded an $82 million design-services contract for Mass Transit Railway Corp. Ltd.’s Hong Kong high-speed rail terminus project, which will connect to China’s high-speed rail network. The $2 billion multi-level terminus will have a more than 25-acre footprint and feature topside commercial development. The project is scheduled for completion in 2015.

• CSX Transportation has expanded its use of RailComm Inc.’s Domain Operations Controller (DOC®) system at Rice Yard in Waycross, Ga. RailComm has modified an existing DOC server to add control for 39 additional GE Transportation Systems HydraSwitch machines in the yard’s pull back and forwarding areas. The DOC system includes redundant auto failover and eNtrance & eXit (NX) routing capability, enabling a yardmaster to select and cancel control of individual and through routes within a controlled territory.

• Everbridge obtained a contract from the Santa Clara Valley Transportation Authority (VTA) to implement Everbridge Matrix, an automated incident communications system. Everbridge Matrix will enable the agency to instantaneously and simultaneously notify VTA staff and board members in the event of a natural disaster, such as an earthquake or a county-wide evacuation. The system is designed to deliver messages to all standard voice and text communication devices, including phones, pagers, fax machines, PDAs, and instant messaging and short message services. VTA also has deployed the Everbridge Aware emergency notification system.

• Railinc announced its President and Chief Executive Officer Allen West was appointed a founding member of IBM’s Global Rail Innovation Center advisory board in Beijing, China. The center will bring together the world’s industry leaders, researchers and universities to advance next-generation rail systems. The advisory board will help define business and technology solutions for passenger- and freight-rail problems.
