• Electro-Motive Diesel Inc. announced it has signed a memorandum of understanding with Saudi Arabia-based railway services company Mohawarean Group to form a joint venture. The goal of the joint venture is to provide service training and technical support to the maintenance and operational personnel for a fleet of locomotives in the region; provide post-delivery spare parts to ensure reliability and availability of locomotives; provide maintenance support throughout Saudi Arabia; rebuild and repower old locomotives; and develop the potential for performing certain production activities for new locomotives.

• The MERMEC Group announced that their American subsidiary, Imagemap Inc., has changed its name to MERMEC Inc. MERMEC Inc. will remain headquartered in Columbia, S.C., and will be lead by Russell Taylor, who was named president and chief executive officer in January.

• Thales UK worked with Docklands Light Railway (DLR) on a recent infrastructure upgrade project that will enable DLR to run its first public three-car services in London. The upgrade involved extending platforms and upgrading track and other infrastructure. Thales UK worked with Thales Canada to upgrade DLR’s communications-based train control technology, SelTrac, to accommodate the switch from two- to three-car services.

• Industrial services provider MISCOR Group Ltd. announced it has reached an agreement to sell its wholly-owned subsidiary, American Motive Power Inc., which is located in Dansville, N.Y. The sale is part of MISCOR’s restructuring plan to refocus the company’s business strategy on the maintenance, repair, remanufacturing and manufacturing of mechanical and electrical equipment for customers in the industrial and utility industries.

• Bombardier Transportation and consortium partner Vossloh Kiepe has signed an option to supply Greater Manchester Passenger Transport Executive’s (GMPTE) Metrolink system with eight Bombardier Flexity Swift light-rail vehicles. This option, part of a contract signed with GMPTE in April 2007, is for $18 million.

• EKE-Electronics has announced it received the International Railway Industry Standard (IRIS) certification, which covers onboard vehicle control, passenger information and communication system categories.
