Today, Wabtec Corp. announced it acquired Brush Traction Group in the United Kingdom for about $31 million.

Brush Traction Group provides overhaul and maintenance services for various locomotives, including those operated by leasing companies and transit authorities, and used in the Eurotunnel and for high-speed rail service in the U.K.  The company — which maintains facilities in Loughborough, England, and Kilmarnock, Scotland — also supplies traction motors, electrical control systems, wheelsets and other locomotive components.

"This acquisition strengthens our position as a leading aftermarket service provider in the U.K.," said Wabtec President and Chief Executive Officer Albert Neupaver in a prepared statement. “With its focus on the locomotive aftermarket, Brush Traction is a strategic complement to our Wabtec Rail unit in Doncaster, England, which offers mainly transit car refurbishment.”

Through its subsidiaries, Wabtec provides various products and services to the rail industry, including components for locomotives, freight cars and transit vehicles, new switchers and commuter locomotives, and aftermarket services.
