Watco releases annual sustainability report

Watco has released its annual summation of the company's environmental, social and governance (ESG) initiatives.

The 2022 "Delivering a Better Tomorrow" report describes Watco’s sustainability efforts and performance last year, including the company’s first inventory of greenhouse-gas emissions (GHGs).

The inventory focuses on six GHGs and encompasses the company's network of rail, terminals, ports and logistics facilities, Watco officials said in a press release.

"[We are] committed to doing our part to reduce emissions and also pursue other ways we can operate our business in a responsible way," said Watco Chief Executive Officer Dan Smith. "We are prioritizing sustainability in our business practices, and part of our responsibility is to examine and measure our impact and then use our sustainability report as a way to communicate that to team members, customers, and the communities we serve."
