Princeton Consultants: Locomotive on-board monitoring system

Princeton Consultants' locomotive on-board monitoring system is designed to improve asset management, reduce maintenance and shop time and accelerate checkout.

The system, which is used by three Class I railroads, monitors the health of locomotives' positive train control (PTC) and communications systems, and conducts software and hardware diagnostics.

In addition, the system leverages next-generation technologies that were required for PTC but have broader applications, according to a press release issued by Princeton Consultants. It can be expanded to monitor non-PTC on-board assets.  

The on-board monitoring system also provides remote management capabilities in addition to monitoring, such as remote configuration changes and remote software upgrades. It can be customized to communicate with the back office using different message types and is ITCM compatible.
