The American Short Line and Regional Railroad Association yesterday presented its President's Safety Award to Pacific Harbor Line Inc. (PHL).

The award recognizes railroads' safety records, based on 2021 Federal Railroad Administration data, that demonstrate the lowest FRA-reportable employee injury frequency rate.

PHL earned the award in the 250,000 to 500,000 annual person-hours worked category for the ASLRRA's Pacific region, railroad officials said in a press release.

"Winning this award is a wonderful acknowledgment of the processes, follow-up and results of Pacific Harbor Line’s safety culture," said PHL President Otis Cliatt. "I’m extremely honored by the efforts of members of Brotherhood of Locomotive Engineers and Trainmen Division 214 and PHL management to achieve this incident/accident rate.”

Owned by Anacostia Rail Holdings Co., PHL provides freight transportation and dispatching services for the ports of Long Beach and Los Angeles. It switches nearly 40,000 rail cars annually and serves nine on-dock intermodal terminals, dispatching more than 30 stack trains daily.

The railroad interchanges with BNSF Railway Co. and Union Pacific Railroad.
