Caltrain last week began construction to improve three grade crossings in Redwood City, California.Crews are installing new pedestrian gate arms, as well as new guard rails and signage to channel pedestrians toward crosswalks. Workers also will install roadway markers and bumps along the crosswalk so vehicles don't accidentally turn onto the tracks, Caltrain officials said in a press release.Work started Feb. 13 with the digging of a bore pit near the Main Street crossing in Redwood City. The other two crossings are located at Whipple Avenue and Broadway Street.The projects are slated to wrap up by April on Broadway and by the July 31 for Whipple Avenue and Main Street. The work isn't expected to affect Caltrain service.Caltrain is working with Redwood City on the project.
