On Friday, the Transportation Community Awareness and Emergency Response (TRANSCAER®) program announced the recipients of its 2011 National Awards, which recognize the achievements of individuals, companies and organizations in advocating, demonstrating and implementing TRANSCAER principles.

The awards include national and regional achievement honors; the Chairman's Award; Torch Award; individual honors; and certificates of achievement. TRANSCAER is a voluntary national outreach program dedicated to helping communities prepare for and respond to hazardous material transportation incidents.

“The TRANSCAER Awards program allows us to acknowledge and thank our dedicated volunteers for their truly remarkable accomplishments, demonstrated through their continuous efforts to ensure communities are prepared to deal with possible hazardous materials transportation-related incidents,” said National TRANSCAER Task Group Chairman Rollie Shook in a prepared statement.

The 2011 National TRANSCAER Award recipients are BNSF Railway Co.; CN; Canadian Pacific; CSX Transportation; DuPont CAER Car Program; Norfolk Southern Railway; and Union Pacific Railroad.

The Chairman’s Award winner is Don Evans of the American Chemistry Council and Torch Award winner is Mike Stiner, NS’ TRANSCAER Region 2 coordinator. Regional award winners are Bob Baxter of HEPACO, the North Carolina state team coordinator; Scott Etzel of Dow Chemical Co. and Dan Coots of TCR Industries Inc., the California state team; and Dave Buccolo of Central California Traction Co., the Region 4 coordinator.

TRANSCAER also named 29 individual achievement award winners and presented 73 certificates of appreciation. Many recipients will receive their awards on May 22 during a ceremony at the Association of American Railroads/Bureau of Explosive’s haz-mat seminar in St. Louis.
