The Washington state Utilities and Transportation Commission (UTC) is now accepting applications for funding from the Grade Crossing Protective Fund (GCPF).
Grants will be awarded for projects that reduce or eliminate public safety hazards at grade crossings or along railroad rights of way. Funding is available to railroads, local governments and other parties proposing to make safety improvements to private or public railroad projects, UTC officials said in a press release.
Applications will be accepted until March 2027, or until funding runs out.
Neither the total funding available nor how much may be awarded per project was disclosed in the press release. Applicants can apply for funding for safety improvements at passively protected crossings, improvements to active warning devices at public grade crossings, or for other projects related to safety enhancements.
