The Tri-County Metropolitan Transportation District of Oregon (TriMet) earlier this month began deploying staff at its transit centers to distribute masks and educate rail riders about the system’s mask requirement as COVID-19 cases continue to spike in Portland.

Staff will also educate riders how to properly wear a mask, and where to find masks and hand sanitizer dispensers on trains. TriMet staff will continue the mask distribution and education efforts through Feb. 6.

TriMet expects to distribute tens of thousands of masks over the period, TriMet officials said in a press release.

Since May 2020, TriMet has given away more than 3.7 million masks, they said.
