Eco-Energy, CHS Sun Basin advance rail-served facilities

Biofuel supply chain company Eco-Energy late last week announced it opened a rail-served distribution facility within the Knoxville, Tenn., terminal complex.

Developed jointly by Eco-Energy and Kinder Morgan Southeast Terminals LLC, the facility is equipped to receive tank cars daily from CSX Transportation for outbound ethanol distribution via pipeline connections and truck deliveries to area gas blending plants.

Late last year, Eco-Energy announced plans to develop an ethanol unloading, storage and outbound truck loading facility in Augusta, Ga. The facility is designed to receive up to 80 tank cars via Norfolk Southern Railway for distribution by truck to local gas blending plants.

Meanwhile, grain cooperative CHS Sun Basin broke Feb. 17 Tuesday for a storage and distribution facility in Warden, Wash.

The project's $12 million first phase, which includes dry and liquid storage facilities, is slated for completion by next spring. The facilities will enable the co-op to store 15,000 tons of dry fertilizer and more than 2.8 million gallons of liquid crop nutrients.

CHS Sun Basin worked with the city of Warden, Port of Warden and Columbia Basin Railroad to advance the project. The coop also plans to eventually add warehouses, an office building and a maintenance shop at the site by mid-2017.
