Braskem, a polyolefins producer, in conjunction with Repauno Port & Rail Terminal, yesterday announced the first import of propylene in more than a decade to the U.S. East Coast.

The vessel carrying propylene arrived at the Repauno Port’s new multi-use terminal facility in Gibbstown, New Jersey. The propylene will be used at Braskem’s polypropylene manufacturing plant in Marcus Hook, Pennsylvania.

Repauno sits next to the Delaware River and offers rail access through Conrail to CSX and Norfolk Southern Railway.

"Our new partnership with Repauno provides Braskem with increased flexibility and optionality to import propylene, particularly when international prices are competitive. Additionally, it provides the flexibility to import in the event of supply disruptions to the asset,” said Alexandre Elias, Braskem America's vice president of polypropylene, in a press release.
