USA Rail Terminals to build facility in Louisiana

USA Rail Terminals LLC on Friday announced plans to build a rail facility and industrial park in West Baton Rouge, La.

The more than $10 million facility will be the only Baton Rouge-area terminal receiving multiple unit trains, according to USA Rail Terminals. The facility is designed to manage single-car loads and unit train shipments, and store more than 1,200 rail cars.

The nearby Port of Greater Baton Rouge last month approved plans for a $19.6 million rail expansion project, which is expected to take about 18 months to complete. Union Pacific Railroad agreed to fund longer receiving tracks and power switches to accommodate unit trains — some featuring as many as 100 cars — at the port.

The port and state will provide $12.6 million for the construction of an adjacent chambering yard.
