E-business: Louisville & Indiana customers begin to bill cars online

In June, two shippers began using a Web-based billing system recently offered by the Louisville & Indiana Railroad Co. (L&I), according to the 111-mile short line's August newsletter.

Kroot Corp. and PQ Corp. use e-BOL — designed and marketed by RMI — to electronically send L&I bills of lading and bill cars.

The shippers also are using RMI's ShipperConnect to monitor inventory via the Internet. ShipperConnect interacts with e-BOL to enable shippers to select specific rail cars to bill instead of manually entering each car, L&I officials said.

The officials plan to continue demonstrating and promoting the online systems to shippers.
