Florida East Coast Railway L.L.C. (FEC) recently received the 2011 Performance Excellence Award for Rail Destination of the Year from American Honda Motor Co. Inc. The award recognizes a railroad’s “superior performance” in on-time delivery, damage-free operations, accurate inventory controls and field audit inspections, according to FEC.

The 351-mile regional transports new Honda vehicles from Jacksonville, Fla., to its automotive facility at Hialeah Yard near Miami. Cars then are delivered to local dealers throughout south Florida.

American Honda selected FEC from among more than one dozen other U.S. railroads to honor the regional’s “dedication to operational excellence,” FEC officials said in a prepared statement.

“This is a tremendous honor for FEC’s employees who work every day to ensure our customers’ expectations are exceeded,” said FEC President and Chief Executive Officer James Hertwig.
