Florida East Coast Railway L.L.C. (FEC) recently received a nearly perfect score during an unannounced “destination quality review” of its Miami automotive facility, which was conducted by the Transportation Technology Center Inc., FEC officials announced yesterday.

The review analyzes a number of factors, such as the proper handling of vehicles during the unloading process, and the correct use and placement of equipment. The 351-mile regional received a score of 99.74, about 5 percent higher than the industry average, FEC officials said in a prepared statement.

The score is representative of the level of commitment FEC and its contractors seek to attain to provide “high-quality transportation services” to automotive customers, said FEC President and Chief Executive Officer James Hertwig.

FEC transports vehicles for American Honda Motor Co., Chrysler Group L.L.C. and Volkswagen Group of America from Jacksonville, Fla., to the automotive facility located at the railroad’s Hialeah Yard, where the vehicles are stored and delivered to local dealers in south Florida. The vehicles are moved to Jacksonville by CSX Transportation and Norfolk Southern Railway.
