Georgiana & Andalusia Railroad LLC (GAR), a noncarrier, today filed an exemption notice with the Surface Transportation Board to replace Three Notch Railway LLC as the operator of two rail lines in southern Alabama.

The two lines are a 33-mile line between an interchange point in Georgiana and Andalusia, Alabama, and a 2.64-mile line between a connection with the Georgiana line and Andalusia. According to the filing, GAR will purchase from Three Notch the track and rail-related improvements on the Georgiana line and will assume Three Notch's lease from CSX for the land under the Georgiana line.

In addition, GAR will assume Three Notch's lease of the Andalusia line from Andalusia & Conecuh Railroad Co. (A&C). GAR has agreed in principle with Three Notch, CSX and A&C on the proposed transaction, under which GAR will replace Three Notch as operator and assume the common carrier obligation on the lines.

The filing and transaction are related to another notice filed with the STB in which Macquarie Infrastructure Partners, on behalf of itself, Pinsly Railroad Co. and other entities seeking to continue operation of GAR upon GAR becoming a short line.
