Jaguar Transport Holdings subsidiary Kinston Railroad (KNR) began operations on Aug. 1. The short line acquired leasehold rights to 6 miles of track owned by the North Carolina Department of Transportation.
KNR will interchange with Norfolk Southern Railway in Kinston and terminate at the North Carolina Global TransPark, a 2,500-acre multimodal industrial and business park.
The short line is Joplin, Missouri-based Jaguar’s second operation in North Carolina.
"Connected to a modern industrial park and located in close proximity to multiple deep-water ports, we think this railroad will allow us to provide excellent service to current and future customers and earn the right to grow alongside them and the local community," said Jaguar CEO Stu Towner in a press release.
KNR is the ninth short line for Jaguar, which has partnered with OPTrust, one of Canada’s largest pension plans. The other Jaguar-owned railroads are the Charlotte Western Railroad, Missouri Eastern Railroad, Cimarron Valley Railroad, Southwestern Railroad, Washington Eastern Railroad, Oregon Eastern Railroad, Texas Eastern Railroad and West Memphis Base Railroad.
