Louisville & Indiana Railroad (LIRC), in conjunction with American Commercial Barge Line, this week announced  the grand opening of Jeffersonville RiverRail Terminal in Indiana will take place in early 2021.

The terminal is located on a mile-long river frontage with more than 60 acres of industrial land. It serves as a site for breakbulk and bulk shipping of raw materials and finished goods. Northern Kentucky and southern Indiana markets will be "readily reached" from the terminal, according to the terminal website.

Rail transit times typically are two days or less across LIRC's 106 route miles, which connect with Class Is. Daily direct interchanges at Louisville, Kentucky, and Jeffersonville and Indianapolis are provided by LIRC.

Unit train, carload and intermodal operations will be supported at the site, which accommodates 286,000-pound gross weight on rail, LIRC officials said.

The terminal will feature 147,000 square feet of indoor storage with rail and multimodal access; 35 acres of outdoor storage and laydown area ready for development; 22 fleeting spaces on site with additional fleeting space nearby; and 110 rail-car capacity on site.

LIRC is a subsidiary of Anacostia Rail Holdings Co. American Commercial Barge Line provides an integrated network of boats and barges to reach over 7,000 miles of U.S. inland waterways.
