The North Carolina Railroad Co. (NCRR) plans to provide up to $500,000 to fund rail infrastructure to the future Fit Precast headquarters and concrete pipe production plant to be located in Gaston County.
Fit Precast will construct a $102 million, 154,000-square-foot facility for its administrative and manufacturing operations. The company produces precast concrete and piping products that are critical components of stormwater management, transportation and utility construction, NCRR officials said in a press release.
Through its NCRR Invests economic development program, NCRR will use private revenue to fund the design and construction of a rail spur at the plant, including drainage, track and signal work. Fit Precast will handle a minimum of 500 rail cars annually. The company anticipates the completed plant will generate 125 full-time jobs.
"We’re proud to help strengthen Gaston County’s rail connectivity and support the significant job growth that Fit Precast will bring to the region," said Carl Warren, NCRR president and CEO. "NCRR works closely with local partners to ensure communities have the rail infrastructure and strategic support they need to attract and sustain new industry."
