OmniTRAX Inc. today announced it has signed a long-term agreement to be the exclusive third-party rail switching service provider for WE Soda’s Westvaco mining facility in Green River, Wyoming.

The new service agreement calls for OmniTRAX to handle dedicated switching for WE Soda’s Westvaco mine, with annual cargo volumes projected to exceed 3.5 million tons, OmniTRAX officials said in a press release.

Also known as sodium carbonate, soda ash is a top 10 global commodity. The natural compound is used in many products, including the glass used in bottles, cars, homes and household essentials such as insulation, light bulbs, soaps and detergents.

The mine is home to 90% of the world’s trona ore deposits and Westvaco is WE Soda’s largest North American mining operation.

“The OmniTRAX partnership supports our continued investment in North American infrastructure and logistics, reinforcing WE Soda’s commitment to deliver sustainable, low-cost soda ash to customers worldwide,” said WE Soda CEO Oguz Erkan.

The pact is OmniTRAX's second major new soda ash customer service agreement this month, doubling the tonnage the company will transport from the region.
