On Monday, U.S Rep. Frank Lucas (R-Okla.), Sayre City Manager Guy Hylton, representatives from FarmRail System Inc., RailWorks Corp. and the National Railroad Construction and Maintenance Association Inc. (NRC), and other local officials met in Sayre, Okla., to discuss an upcoming project on a rail line between Sayre and Clinton.

Late last year, the Oklahoma Department of Transportation was awarded a Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery III grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation to upgrade 49 miles of track on a Farmrail-operated line between Sayre and Clinton to accommodate growing shipments of Anadarko Basin crude oil. The project is an important development for local shippers, the city of Sayre, economy of western Oklahoma and state-owned rail infrastructure, meeting attendees said. RailWorks won the contract to perform the work, which will begin shortly.

Lucas also toured a rail yard that the Mercuria Energy Group uses to ship crude oil. The event provided the congressman an opportunity to discuss the rail industry’s economic impact in the area and throughout Oklahoma, NRC officials said in a prepared statement.
