M&A

  • Electro-Motive Diesel Inc. acquired certain assets of ITS Rail Services, which provides technical and training services, and publications to the rail industry.
  • Harsco Corp. acquired ZETA-TECH Associates, which provides railway engineering services and track maintenance software. ZETA-TECH will become part of the Harsco Track Technologies division.
  • Global Rail Systems Inc. acquired Alstom Transport’s Personal Traffic Master System, management software used for dispatching yards, CTC and dark territory on mainlines and transit properties. Global Rail will market the software as TrackMaster.

International Beat

  • The Timken Co. supplied cartridge bearings to mining firm Rana Gruber AS — Timken’s first Norwegian rail customer — and won a $6.5 million contract to supply rail bearings to Indian freight-car builder Titagarh Wagons Ltd.
  • United Kingdom-based Wabtec Rail obtained a $40 million, five-year contract to maintain 31 high-speed locomotives for U.K. rail equipment lessor HSBC Rail.
  • Bombardier Transportation won a rail signaling equipment contract from China Railway Signaling and Communications Corp.
  • Andrew Corp. obtained a contract to upgrade Mass Transit Railway Corp.’s territory-wide radio network in Hong Kong.
  • Alstom won a contract to supply four high-speed Pendolino trains to Karelian Trains, a joint venture between the Russian and Finnish railways, and two electrification contracts in Greece for the SKA-Kiato and Inoi-Halkida suburban lines.

Track Examiner

  • ENSCO Inc. obtained a multi-year contract from the Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority and a multi-year contract from the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority to provide track inspection services.

C&S

  • RailComm Inc. shipped and commissioned a remote-control derail and blue-flag protection system to BNSF Railway Co.’s Havre, Mont., diesel shop, and added remote-control functionality to a Domain Operations Controller System at the bowl end of the Alton & Southern Railroad’s yard.
