• Siemens has obtained a $53.8 million contract to supply signaling systems — including electronic interlockings, outdoor equipment and trackside components for automatic train control — for the extension of metro lines two and three in Athens by operator Attiko Metro S.A. In addition, 17 trains will be fitted with Siemens onboard units. The project’s first phase is slated for fall 2013.

• Rocla Concrete Tie Inc. has selected Pueblo as the location for its new Colorado production facility. The Pueblo plant, which is scheduled to open in the fourth quarter, will be the concrete tie producer’s largest U.S. facility, company officials said in a prepared statement. • e-VERIFILE.COM Inc. announced that it signed the Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) and its Central Florida Rail Corridor project as a user of e-RAILSAFE SHORTLINE, a web-based solution designed to help regional and short-line operators with routine workforce safety and security management. FDOT is expected to use ERS-SHORTLINE to ensure greater security and safety compliance amongst its CFRC contractor workforce, according to a company press release.

• JMA Railroad Supply Co. has entered into an exclusive agreement with ZTR Control Systems to represent its SmartStart® locomotive engine start/stop systems. With locations in the United States and Canada, ZTR has been supplying various products, including the SmartStart system, for 25 years.
