Alstom has closed on a $59 million deal to buy an additional 8 percent stake in train manufacturer Transmashholding (TMH) from Russian Railways. Following the acquisition, Alstom's total stake in TMH reached 33 percent. Additionally, Alstom will retain two seats on the TMH board. The deal is aimed at boosting Alstom and TMH's "intense collaboration" as the two entities expand their objective beyond providing trains to delivering turnkey railway projects, infrastructure and signaling, and the export of products and components, Alstom officials said in a press release. Bombardier Transportation on Sunday marked the opening of the 10-mile Downtown Line Stage (DTL) 2 rail line in Singapore. The company delivered all 111 Movia Metro cars for the line a week ahead of its delivery schedule, Bombardier officials said in a press release. The entire 26-mile underground DTL is the fifth mass rapid transit line in Singapore and is being delivered in three stages. The first 2.7-mile section opened in 2013 with 24 of Bombardier's Movia Metro cars. The trains for the final stage are slated to be delivered next year, Bombardier officials said.Nomad Digital has implemented a proof of concept of Nomad Tech's remote online condition monitoring solution on four Alstom X'trapolis units for Metro Trains Melbourne in Australia. The project is aimed at delivering improved levels of reliability, safety and operational efficiencies, Nomad officials said in a press release. The company was selected by Metro Trains in April 2014 to lead the design, development and implementation of the proof of concept. The solution, which was implemented within six months, provides the transit agency with real-time condition and diagnostic-based monitoring across key operation elements, and creates a scalable framework for the future introduction of both predictive and remote condition-based maintenance methodologies, Nomad officials said.
