Rail supplier news from Cubic, Duos Technologies, Arup, HNTB and Wi-Tronix (Aug. 23)

Cubic Transportation Systems launched an open payment technology for the Miami-Dade Department of Transportation and Public Works’ Metrorail EASY card transit fare system. The technology allows riders to pay for their transit fare using a contactless-enable Visa or Mastercard, American Express credit card or through a digital wallet on a smartphone or wearable device, Cubic officials said in a press release.

Duos Technologies Inc. and truevue360 have been awarded an expanded five-year, $1 million contract from a Class I to develop a library of artificial intelligence algorithms to better analyze images from the railroad’s rail inspection portal. The algorithms will assist the unidentified railroad with rail-car maintenance inspections, Duos Technologies officials said in a press release. 

Arup appointed Zvonko Trajkovic rail systems engineering leader in the Americas. Trajkovic will lead Arup’s design, assurance, integration and implementation of rail systems, company officials said in a press release. Trajkovic has 35 years of engineering experience, and spent the past two decades developing and managing rail projects in Canada and internationally. Most recently, he was vice president of rail systems at AECON Group Inc. He also worked for WSP USA and Bombardier Transportation.

HNTB Corp. has named Bernd Hagenah associate vice president and principal engineer for tunnel ventilation and fire life safety. Hagenah has more than two decades of experience in tunnel and site ventilation, safety, and rail aerodynamics and thermodynamics, HNTB officials said in a press release. He previously served as senior consultant and international project manager for a tunnel consulting firm in Switzerland.

Wi-Tronix LLC marked its 15th year providing internet of things services for railroads and transit agencies worldwide. Larry Jordan, Michael Heilmann, Lisa Matta and Duane Hong founded the company in 2004. Since then, it has grown to over 130 employees who support more than 12,000 rail vehicles equipped with the company's technology, Wi-Tronix officials said in a press release.
