Delta Railroad Services has introduced a new, rail-bound, custom-engineered and built rail unloader car. The machine is designed to improve the speed, efficiency and safety of unloading up to 1,600-foot continuous welded rail (CWR) strings from rail cars. The new unloader car streamlines the end-to-end rail unloading process, a task traditionally performed manually, which can be both time-consuming and dangerous. Its innovative design allows for the efficient and precise distribution of CWR strings directly from railcars onto the track bed, Delta Railroad Services officials said in a press release. "We’ve taken a labor-intensive, hazardous process and transformed it into a safe, automated operation. This not only protects our front-line construction crews, but also dramatically increases productivity for crews across the United States and North America," said CEO Linda Laurello.

The Railway Supply Institute has joined the B&O Railroad Museum as a key partner to support the bicentennial of American railroading in 2027. The museum and its partners will shine a spotlight on the past, present and future of American railroading as the nation celebrates 200 years since the founding of the Baltimore & Ohio Railroad, America’s first chartered rail line, on Feb. 28, 1827. The B&O Railroad Museum sits on the original grounds where the first stone was laid for the first mile of commercial track in the country. As a bicentennial partner, RSI will display its logo on the anniversary website and has committed to amplify the 200th anniversary of American railroading in 2027 with its membership and beyond, RSI officials said in a press release.
