The Greenbrier Cos. Inc. announced that in the second quarter of fiscal-year 2024 it obtained new rail-car orders for 5,900 units valued at nearly $690 million and delivered 5,600 units, resulting in new rail-car backlog of 29,200 units with an estimated value of $3.6 billion. The company reported net earnings of $33 million, or $1.03 per diluted share, on revenue of $863 million, in the fiscal quarter that ended Feb. 29.
Rail Vision Ltd. has received an order for its AI-driven switch yard system from Loram. The order serves as a pilot project aimed at leveraging Rail Vision’s advanced technology to enhance Loram's rail track maintenance operations, according to a Rail Vision press release. Should the pilot prove successful, the two companies will consider expanding the collaboration to further integrate Rail Vision's solutions into Loram's service offerings across the United States, further cementing its presence in the U.S. market.
Alstom has delivered the first electric multiple unit (EMU) C-series train as part of the Western Australian Government’s Metronet rail-car program for passenger service, according to a press release. The C-series train was manufactured by Alstom at Metronet’s Bellevue manufacturing site in Perth, Australia. The train is based on Alstom’s X’trapolis commuter train platform, featuring enhanced energy efficient technologies. Each train can carry 1,200 passengers and includes three double passenger doors on each side of each car for enhanced passenger flow.
Emrill has launched Emrill Rail, its latest division providing solutions to the railway supply industry. Dubai-based Emrill Rail has partnered with Clemtech, which specializes in recruitment and consultancy services for rolling stock and rail sectors. Clients include train manufacturers, original equipment manufacturers and the wider supply chain, according to an Emrill press release.
Brake-Boss®, which provides Class I automated air-brake testing solutions, has launched an app that enables car inspectors to conduct air-brake tests on trains of any length remotely. The app integrates with the advanced Brake-Boss Portable and YardMaster® devices, enabling car inspectors to perform air-brake tests within the rail yard using their mobile devices. This app also allows inspectors to access and review recent test results and monitor the status of installed Brake-Boss devices, company officials said in a press release.
